Roméo et Juliette (Romeo and Juliet) is a French opera composed by Charles Gounod, based on the play of the same name by William Shakespeare. It was first performed on 27 April 1867 in Paris and has since become a staple of the operatic repertoire.
"Je veux vivre dans le rêve" is an aria sung by Juliet in the first act of the opera. The aria expresses Juliet's joy and wonder at having fallen in love with Romeo and her desire to remain in this state of happiness forever.
The music is delicate and lyrical, conveying the tenderness and youthful enthusiasm of Juliet's feelings. The aria showcases Gounod's mastery of melody and his ability to convey the emotions of the characters through music. It remains a popular piece and is often performed in concerts and recitals.
This version is in G Major, which is the original key, but the piece is often transposed to F Major. The lyrics in this video are the original lyrics, reading "le rêve" rather than the more commonly sung "ce rêve". I have also created a version in F Major which has the alternative lyrics and less pronounced tempo changes.
